This Jun ware inkstone was designed and handcrafted in a small family workshop near Yuzhou, Henan, the historic birthplace of Jun ceramics.
Traditionally used to grind ink for calligraphy and painting, the inkstone is one of the Four Treasures of the Scholar's Studio. Dating back to the Song dynasty (960-1279), Jun ware is celebrated as one of China's Five Great Wares, renowned for its thick, opalescent glazes and distinctive, unpredictable purple splashes.
I entrusted this vessel to Alix of Old HK Lights, who transformed it into a candle scented with her signature Stanley fragrance: a harmonious blend of cedarwood, patchouli, rosemary, lemon and cypress. Natural and evocative, this refined woody scent appeals to a wide audience while retaining its own distinctive character.
Once the wax has been fully consumed, the inkstone can be refilled and enjoyed again as a candle. It may also be repurposed as a fruit bowl, a decorative vessel, a trinket dish, or even for serving desserts. A chocolate mousse somehow looks even more tempting when presented in it.
To preserve the fragrance experience, avoid prolonged exposure to concentrated essential oils in enclosed spaces.
Dimensions: diameter is 19 cm, height is 6.5 cm.
